The big news in the UK freight industry is the expansion of UK ports. Two of the biggest ports in the UK – Felixstowe and Liverpool are expanding to deal with the ever-increasing amount of imports that this little island has to deal with.

Felixstowe has launched its £40millon new rail terminal, which will double the port’s rail capacity. This will improve delivery time of containers to their final destinations around the UK.

Liverpool has also started their construction of a new container terminal, Liverpool2. Peel Ports’ £300million in-river container terminal, will enable post-Panamax vessels of up to 13,500 teu to call directly at the port of Liverpool. This will mean that some of the largest container ships in the world will be visiting the port on a weekly basis, and expanding links between Liverpool and other ports around the world.
